I haven't been able to install HEK+ yet, because I apparently am running a version of the .NET framework that is too new? :|

OK, I'm royally confused now. When I renamed Chaos Forest's map file to "ufgrepack_chaosforest.map" and loaded Halo CE, it works. Then I type 'sv_map ufgrepack_chaosforest Slayer' and it loads another map I have installed... Captus. :|
So I deleted Captus from my maps folder. Then I started Halo CE back up.

I don't get it. I can rename other maps and they'll actually start and play. Why can't I rename this one? Why is it even integrity checking the custom maps? I didn't think it did that.

On Windows, the contents of these Zip files both look like they have spaces between the names. On Linux, this is the difference between a map that's going to work, and a map that's not going to work (with sv_map on a dedicated server console).

Does this change your opinion on this question?

I should also note, there's a map I have called Wet Dunes which has the name "Wet Dunes.map" and when I do 'sv_map "Wet Dunes" Slayer' it works fine... so I'm not 100% sure it's the spaces, but I'm downloading HEK from my server to test your theory.

map_name "frozen tunnels" This will not work as this is used for loading single player maps. If you do use it, you will not spawn and not be able to move your view. The problem is the spaces. What you can do is put the map into HEK+ and extract it. Then compile it as a new map named frozen_tunnels. However, everyone who use your server will have to download the new map. I first experience this with a single player map called "Island Paradox".
I'm inexperienced with HEK+ but I do have a copy of it on my server upstairs that I can install. Thanks for what sounds like a valid solution though. :)
However, you're telling me that this map designer created a map which, for all intents and purposes, cannot be put on a dedicated server because of its map name? That's really dumb.

I just tried doing that in my game console and dedicated server console. It seems to have no effect at all. It just executes successfully, and nothing happens. I've also tried 'map_name dangercanyon' to see if it was this specific map, but that didn't do anything either.

I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem and found a workaround for it. -UFG-Kirk i don't think that the Dev console supports spaces. try doing sv_map "Forrest Tunnels" If you'd looked at my screenshot, you'd have seen that I've tried that. Also, it's not Forest Tunnels, it's Frozen Tunnels, lol.
Any other ideas?

Hello, I run a Halo CE dedicated server on my home network for my clan. I have several gigabytes of map files on the server, and we have a lot of fun with it. :) However, I'm having a problem with about 4 of the map files. They have weird file names. My Halo server runs on Ubuntu, so I thought maybe there was a character encoding difference between Windows and Linux, but no... there's definitely something wrong with these files.
When I launch them in my Ubuntu Halo Dedicated Server, they load up just fine - but my Windows clients can't connect to the game. So I tried launching them inside Halo CE using two methods. 1) Load the map off the Start Server page. This worked every single time. 2) Load the map using the sv_map console directive you'd use on a dedicated server.
For some reason, certain maps that have spaces in the filenames can't load with the sv_map command. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem and found a workaround for it.
Here are two specific examples of maps giving me this problem. ("Chaos forest.map" and "frozen tunnels.map")

Frozen Tunnels: Download: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3915 Screenshots: http://www.imghost.oabw.net/img02/1246350564.png http://www.imghost.oabw.net/img02/1246316432.png http://www.imghost.oabw.net/img02/1246336804.png
For whatever reason - they just don't load. :| Any ideas?
Thanks! -UFG-Kirk
That's exactly what I wanted! Thanks! :)
Hi,
I've been using HaloMaps.org for years, but I never really thought to join the forums. :P Lately, I've been seeing some Custom Edition dedicated servers that have periodic text bulletins that show up on the left side of the screen in the chat area as like "** SERVER ** Hi, this is a message." and stuff like that.
I've never seen this done until recently, and I was wondering if anyone here knew how to do it. I'm assuming it's a mod of some kind? If so, where can I obtain it?
Thanks, -UFG-Kirk
