Yeah, an SSD's useful for loading times mostly.

It's also helpful if you do a lot of reckless browsing and have to do regular scans as a result. An SSD pretty much voids the lag caused by scanning.

I'm just going to go ahead and provide a generic response:

'Woah, this is so totally awesome, dude!'

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 lol the p2 quads seem to be commonplace these days

I was gonna say that D:

We obviously dislike the FX series.

I disliked the Bulldozer part of the FX series but it's getting better. The 6300 looks alright.

AMD still have a lot of work to do though.

Still waiting or someone to show up who has ripped DDR5 RAM from his GPU and used as his RAM, while having a GTX titan with an overclocked CPU @ 7.0GHz.

1. Not possible and pointless.

2. Why would that be amazing? Cooling can reach amazingly high standards these days.

Anyway, my specs:

Case: Antec One.
Motherboard: M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
Harddrive: Western Digital 250GB something. It's years old but I think it's actually fast even by today's standards.
RAM: Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz 8GB
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 1GB. Not sure which brand. Going to be upgrading to a GTX 660 as soon as I have enough money(though Steam is hindering this goal :/)

Halo CE General Discussion » Damnit Dennis, you broke Bungie LLC. May 13, 2013 04:46 PM (Total replies: 55)

Trolling is really just spinning something in a manner that insults it itself, whether 'it' is a person, an event or an object.

It can be done positively, e.g. a mother calling an adult son child-like(this is spinning a friendly insult around the mother-to-son relationship), or it can be done negatively, i.e. being sarcastic spitefully.

It's not necessarily a bad thing(though it can be).

So classifying somebody as a troll in such a definitively negative manner is ridiculous regardless.

The malcontent you are referring, to use your terminology, was obviously already "broken" if he thought that was the way to conduct himself in public. Blaming me for his actions is ridiculous. I have already banned both of his accounts.

I have to say his reaction to his first account being banned was childishly predictable.

He listed you directly as reasoning for posting these things (and i do mean "things") onto the forum. I am not up to date on the situation and, therefore, my obligation as a third party is to hold both the first and second to equal accountability. I was not directly "blaming you" for his actions, but I've understood from experience that one's haste can be affected by the environment the person is in, as well as the people that are placed around him. If one's productivity is downplayed by another, they will naturally attempt to compensate as their ambition would inspire them to "prove" the other person wrong. That's called manipulation.

Ugh, the idea that anybody that's psychologically affected someone should be held responsible for their actions is ridiculous. Yes, you are right in that Dennis's actions affect Bungie LLC's thought patterns but then... eating a cake in front of a starving man can cause sparks of anger. Should you be punished?

Oh and 'Np_Mapping_Team', whoever you are, you clearly don't know me. I have no idea why you would have a grudge against me but don't bring my name up in such a context again unless it actually makes any sense at all. Ally's post concerns a subject which I believe I am more knowledgable than anyone on.(I'm writing some books about the subject. I know of nobody else that holds my in-depth knowledge of the mind)
Also, you really should read big walls of text even if they're full of what you consider nonsense. You learn much from seeing others fail just as you learn much from your own failings.

.
Uh.. Yeah.. I didn't need you to defend me on anything.

I didn't defend you on anything. You seem to have this ridiculous idea that affecting someone's thoughts should be considered a crime thus you think that Dennis should be blamed for Bungie LLC's actions.
Legal action cannot be taken against Dennis just for hosting 'bullies' or for not being nice to LLC. If there are any laws which would allow this, which I doubt, they can easily be countered by the right lawyer.

Ha ha, you have no idea how ignorant this sounds.
From where did you gain this knowledge?

From years of deep thought and study, of course.

However, this is irrelevant to the discussion so this will be my only answer. Perhaps you can see evidence of my theory within the next few years.

Both the Nvidia Control Panel and Enbseries offer ambient occlusion settings. I believe there are other plugins that allow it but they're the most likely.

Are any of the Community Mapping Team's members in the Custom Mapping Team now?

If not, I'm sure nobody would really mind if the team reformed.
The Community Mapping Team's maps were some of the highest quality maps out there. I don't exaggerate when I say I was extremely irritated when the team disbanded.

Frankly Dsalimander and Masterz, your feud over a name was ridiculous. I'm pretty sure nobody really cared. It's just a name. I mean, I'm sure there are other people called Jaz in the world. I don't care :/

YEAH, I REMEMBER.

Unfortunately the Community Mapping Team decided to kill themselves. It's not the fault of Masterz or anyone else other than the Community Mapping Team's own members.

I must say that I am very satisfied with my purchase, and the Nvidia drivers blow away ATI by a long shot.
For years there was a very close arms race between Nvidia and ATI but when AMD purchased ATI and then moved them from Austin to their corporate headquarters they lost over 70% of their engineers and have been playing catch up ever since. Both companies have good product but Nvidia is still ahead in my opinion.

Actually, AMD seems to have, through some miracle, improved their drivers drastically over the past year. Apparently their drivers are now as stable or more stable than Nvidia's drivers now.
So I'm actually considering switching to AMD :/

(Oh and @Jesse. The 660's more powerful than the 7850 even without any overclock. It's also slightly more powerful than the 7870. Both the 7850 and the 7870 have a lot more overclocking potential though)

Halo CE General Discussion » Why not OS May 8, 2013 09:36 AM (Total replies: 84)

These arguments about OS not providing enough to be worth it are simply ridiculous.

OS takes up what... 300mb? If you can't dedicate such a small amount of space, I doubt you can fit much at all on your PC. Maybe you shouldn't waste 8GB of your precious space on Halo?

OS has no compatibility issues left. It's only issue was that it wouldn't work with Xfire. That is now solved. There's no more reason not to use it.

Also, splitting the community shouldn't be a concern. If Kornman gave permission to anyone to include either a downloader or the OS installer itself with their maps, any players could install OS with ease.
Otherwise, you could always include a link to OS in your map's readme file.

Halo CE General Discussion » What's your Halo CE input? May 6, 2013 05:24 PM (Total replies: 24)

I use the Gigabyte M6880 and an old Microsoft keyboard. Both work very well... or at least the mouse does. Keyboards aren't important though so...

I use the default keymapping with only one change. I swapped the switch grenade and throw grenade keys.(Now, G throws, left mouse switches)
I got tired of accidentally throwing grenades due to instinct so I moved throw to a safer key.

First make sure you downloaded the right version of Open Sauce.
http://code.google.com/p/open-sauce/downloads/list
Download 'OpenSauce_Halo1_CE_20130120.7z'.

Then go through the installer and make sure EVERYTHING is selected for installation on your harddrive. You don't technically need the HEK components but meh, they take up little space and you might be interested lately.

Finally, make sure you downloaded the right map and it download properly. Try downloading it again to see how big it's supposed to be, then check the file you already downloaded and make sure it's the same size. If it isn't, let the new download finish and replace your yelo file. If it's fine, just cancel the download.

Then start the game and use 'map_name a50' or download a UI that allows starting campaign maps.

Also, make sure a50.map is NOT in your maps folder. You should ONLY have a50.yelo

If you still have issues, either post on the CMT SPV3 thread here or start a thread in CMT's Halomods forum.

Then your participation in this thread is completely pointless, is it not?

Anyway, the AR looks awesome. I just hope it works well in-game.

whenever someone tries to make their map sound "deep" or "ominous" by using a word that doesn't apply to the map
I think what Maniac1000 was illustrating and what I was observing is that the exactness or applicability of the map name for some people has as much relevance or importance as the exactness of a username.

Perhaps his/her name is entirely applicable to his/herself in that he/she is apparently actually called Ally and he/she may be interested in anime. Thus Ally may merely represent his/her birthname and Suzumiya his/her great interest in anime.

That is in contrast to using the latin name for a liver to represent a map which is shaped like a brain, for example. The word/name 'liver' is not applicable to the brain, it is only loosely connected due to a network of nerves and electrical signals. There is no further relevance.
Please note(before you use it in argument), the liver does not have an interest in the brain nor does the brain have an interest in the liver. The portions of the brain which provide instructions to the liver do not hold their own form of personality, though they are loosely controlled by a personality or 'soul' which is not yet proven to actually be physically present.

one of the things I never understood was how a human interface would integrate with alien weapons; it made sense with the later Mark VI which is based on further covenant research and branches out with better/experimental tech, but with the mark V I would imagine that the covy weapons would affect the HUD in a way that makes their respective markers(ammo, heat, clips, grenades, etc) smoother and more foreign.

The armor MC wears has sensors of some sort that detect ammo usage, IIRC. Or some other lulzy obscure mechanic that was explained somewhere in Halo folklore (I remember hearing about it back in the Halo 2 days).
Edited by DSalimander on Apr 21, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Well, as Keyes somehow uses Covenant technology as well as MC, I think it's safe to assume the Covenant just happened to leave adapters lying around :P
