and a quick one for my homie ODX
Quote: --- Original message by: MEGA_VKNGI lurk every so often and occasionally make an appearance. My student version of Max 2012 ran out and, while I have other .edu accounts at my disposal, I'm not planning on reviving anytime soon. I have thought about packaging all of my animation files together and releasing them, though. Quote: --- Original message by: Super Flanker

Gamma927 and ODX is still alive?
Gamma pursued a new career, ODX is mostly silent.
Oh, and my list:
1) k0rnman (OpenSauce)
2) Arteen (tons of cool maps which eventually turned into CMT MP maps)
3) Masterz1337 (CMT)
4) CtrlAltDest0y/Choking Victim/ShadowSpartan (Zteam, Halo 2/3 animations, etc)
5) Higuy (he's cool guy)
6) t3h_lag (CMT animator, made lots of awesome rigs and content)
7) Kirby (script god)
8) Dane (he makes cool textures, needs more grime)
9) Donut/ICEE (my Halo CE mother and father, respectively. Part of Sigma)
Gamma and I were messing around with a map at one point. It didn't really go that well objective-wise, I think we made a pretty neat atmosphere and the tagset is one of my favorites.

Quote: --- Original message by: NertezI really cannot discern what's up with this post. I like how you supported the "disrespectful" portion by, as your next statement even, labeling Masters as a cult leader. But whether this in its entirety is sarcasm, irony, or something I'm far too inept to understand, I really am not sure.
Wait, there's something we're forgetting... big project, lotsa maps, came with some kind of sauce iirc that you had to take, gave you ESP? Third revision? Moved to reddit as we were too 'close-minded' and disrespectful? Cult leader who used numerological codes such as 1337 and wished to be referred to as 'Master'???
Ah, nvm, probably confusing it with something else.
Quote: --- Original message by: EtchyaSketchI mean that's just like, your opinion man. The goal was never to please everybody. CMT throughout the years (at least to me) has always been about a bunch of great people teaming up to smash together some cool stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes people enjoy the content, sometimes people don't.
You mean sub-par campaign mod with years of work for nothing that impressive?
I have been in this community for a decade at this point. I have seen the release of each Halo game and their subsequent effects on the modding community. I have seen phenomenal people come through this community who have gone on to work in the industry. I have been great friends with many of them and worked with some as well.
None were ever enthusiastic about recreating any Halo campaign in this 15 year old engine. It is not a simple task, and if it was then somebody would have done so by now.
With that said, I admire your dedication and confidence. I was the same when I was younger and by no means do I want to stifle your enthusiasm. Building your own copies of assets from the Halo games is honestly the best way to learn. My animations started as copies of Halo 3's animations, which to this day I still take massive inspiration from them. I merely encourage you to educate yourself and maintain a consciousness of the scope of the project and be a little realistic on what you can do with the time and motivation you have, or else you'll end up disappointed.
Quote: --- Original message by: Masters1337You mean the one that broke my origins and made no sense as a melee? Yusss
-Removed a Focus Rifle melee animation that should have not been included.
Wow, this thread and this community has become far more toxic that I ever remember.
This is a great step for Halo on PC, but of course nothing to this community is ever good enough. We barely know any of the details and so many people have already been making what look to be awful assumptions.
Microsoft is testing the grounds of PC if you didn't already realize, don't screw it up and you'll likely get Halo 6 on PC (since keeping it locked to the Xbox One wouldn't help them boost sales much when its getting later in the console cycle, but releasing to the PC community would certainly help boost Halo sales).
Oh and a final note: Windows 10 is wonderful and comparing this to Halo 2 Vista is a moot analogy.
I literally lost brain cells watching that video.
And I enjoyed every second of the shenanigans it therein showed. Arr!/Arrrrrr
Quote: --- Original message by: Spartan314Like R93 said, perfection is subjective in animation. I find basically all of Halo 3's animations to be perfect, but I've met plenty who believe they're terrible for whatever reason.
If an animation is perfect then regardless of framerate it'll be the same goodness portrayed wouldn't it?
In terms of framerate...30 to 60 makes a massive difference in force I've found. 3ds Max for me is set to 30FPS, but animating for Contingency in CryEngine (going up to 60FPS) I found tons of issues with force looking great in 30 and sluggish in 60. It might just be a matter of me being used to 30, since after playing MCC for hours and hours I've found the animations to still look great. Honestly it's really weird, I can't quite find a way to explain why.

clipping as in . . ?

Quote: --- Original message by: SOI_7It looks like you're in orthographic view, which is a view (commonly known as "orthographic projection") that projects 3D objects in a more 2D-like view. Hit "P" on your keyboard to change it to perspective, which is how it should normally be.

Why are you rendering in the "User" camera!?
Forgive my ignorance, but... which camera should I use?
Always loved your forerunner modeling, so clean and true to the style.
How. How is this engine still able to do so much year after year...
Impressed beyond all belief.
I always figured it was just part of the PR train to be like "we are explicitly making this as an apology!!!111!" so people would lose sight of how broken the game was.
Dunno, either way it's not too greedy like I said. $5 is not a whole lot to ask, and giving it to a good chunk of the base for free is still better than what Activision or EA would ever do.
Quote: --- Original message by: DaLodeI didn't know you worked for 343i and knew the reasons for everything they did. Who's to say they weren't already working on an ODST port to coincide with the most likely chance that Buck is in Halo 5 on Locke's team? And then, as the game released and manifested into a broken mess, they decided they would make the DLC free for those who suffered the worst of it?
Charging for H3 ODST, which initially was only added to "make up" for their schortcomings, shows this once more. Some people chose to avoid the game entirely because they read the poor reviews, and now those are the ones who they are attempting to extract more cash from.
One could say that shows poor judgement, but alas that's not the case. As a business corporation they know that by now alot of people who haven't bought MCC, won't anymore. Therefore they simply wish to milk every last dollar from those who bought it already, masked under the devious plan of "rewarding early adopters".
Yeah, I'm angry I got it a week after the cutoff date, I was one of the many who was waiting for the game to be not broken (to which it still was until February or so), but $5 is not the end of the world. Frankly I expected it to be $10, $5 is still alright. Should it have cost anything for anyone? Probably not, but it isn't the end of the world. In terms of claiming they are "milking every last drop," well...that's obvious. That's what businesses do, or else many might not exist or have a one-up on the competition.
Quote: --- Original message by: HiguyFree if you suffered through the first 2 or so months of the game's release, not the other few months it remained broken afterwards.
I thought this was going to be a free addition to the MCC game if you had it?
MCC is still broken as hell anyway.
...why is everyone complaining? I kinda like the double audio, one on each side. Nice to hear Staten talking about Halo too. Nothing wrong with the port either.
The only problem is that I have to pay money because I missed the window by a week, disappointing not only me but all the rest of the people who waited to get the game because it was broken and still had to play a broken game until January or so.
Yes. And my best render ever, too.
Quote: --- Original message by: Bungie LLCNow I really don't know much, being the animator and all who used the FP arms (alongside Lag), but I'm pretty sure they were the same arms as SPv2 but with a new skin and all. But you know, what would I know?
and a new model lmao
If you can't decide, here's a giant compilation of all the FP arms I have in my possession through the years. I had a thread a while ago but I can't find it, nor the link, so I reuploaded and should probably upload to Halomaps too sometime...
CMT Spv2 Rig
CMT SPv3 Rig
Crysis 1 Rig
Gordon Freeman Rig*
Sigma Rig (the mapping team that had my mentor, ICEE. http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=4981)
Teh Lag's ODST Rig
*Are not rigged to Halo, as far as I believe/remember/amtoolazytoopenandcheck
Quote: --- Original message by: S12SparkWell my motivation to start animating halfway stemmed out of my annoyance at how iffy HDoan (made H3T with FRain then combined into H3MT with others) used to be at animating, and halfway out of how much I looked up to ICEE (animator for Σ [Sigma mapping team]). So one day I had ICEE let me try and make a flag origin which turned out decently enough.
Any tips on animation? how did you become so good? Did you practice animating without proper nodes and whatnot for halo custom edition and other game engines, or did you start with proper rigging and whatnot to go into a game engine?
I failed to quote ODX.
From there I started practicing origins, primarily copying from Halo 2 and Halo 3. Soon enough I copied the Halo 3 Battle Rifle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-U9ooKo1Ro.
From then on for a year or so I basically just copied animations, mostly from Halo 3. This seems like a terrible thing to do but helps a ton. Soon enough I started to notice how to properly space keyframes and learn timings for animation in 3ds Max. And while that was going on, I began to add my own flairs until eventually I broke into my own animation style and could do things from scratch.
And of course I maintained good contacts with ICEE and other animators who were able to give me tips. And now it's me being the teacher, full circle it seems.
