Been a while since I saw you here! Are you back around?

Nope.

Lestat, this whole argument is pointless.

At the end of the day, inspiration is just too complex and there are far too many contributions. Unless you were directly involved in this project itself and contributed your work yourself, I don't think you need credit at all.

Inspiration may be complex, but I think he deserves credit for his original implementation. He spent a lot of time with his concept, and it seems rather unfair for someone to take it and argue that theirs is completely different. If anyone wants to blame someone for this mixup, blame me; Pepzee and Mooseguy had no knowledge that the help I provided them was based on DSali's work and DSali had no idea that I helped them with an idea that was partly if not mostly based on his concept. Mooseguy and Pepzee's argument in the beginning of the thread was based upon their knowledge; as far as they knew, they had no idea that it was in any way similar. Now they know the full story, and I see no problem for giving him credit. His implementation was rather remarkable at the time, and he should be recognized for it.

TL;DR: big misunderstanding; DSali should be given credit; further discussion on this argument is pointless and stupid.

Halo CE General Discussion » Firefight Portent II Official Thread Feb 4, 2013 11:00 PM (Total replies: 190)

I'd like to clarify: I did NOT make the whole concept up.

When helping Pepzee, I drew some inspiration off of the points system that DSali had shown me. Part of it was mine, but several elements of it WERE drawn from his scripts.

Short answer? YES. The idea may have certain parts derived from DSali's ideas. I can't claim credit for what I didn't fully make; a lot of the inspiration did come from his implementation. At the time, I was just helping Pepzee; he had no idea that it was partially built upon ideas from DSali's conceptualization.

Was the actual script plagiarized? NO. I have full faith that Pepzee wrote the script himself, or based on certain ideas that I gave him from my and DSali's conceptualizations.

TL;DR: This argument is stupid; YES, DSali should be given credit for part of the script. NO, they didn't directly steal and copy DSali's script.

Variables that transfer between maps! I'm thinking of making a kind of a RPG experience. You earn points in maps, then come back to the hub map to buy new maps, gametypes, and weapons. I'm thinking of adding some specops maps in too, to parallel Halo 4's spartan ops mode.

Once again, thanks to Kirby422 for helping me figure this out (well actually, he figured it out without me, I just implemented it >>)

Halo CE Technical / Map Design » HELP... Aug 19, 2012 12:28 AM (Total replies: 12)

Don't put cmd.exe in the Halo CE folder; that could cause rather unfortunate errors when trying to do non-Halo stuff. INSTEAD:

On windows XP:
Start menu -> run

Type in cmd.exe

A black command prompt should open up. Type in:

cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition"

^this is assuming you installed it to the default directory. If you installed it anywhere else, use your install directory instead. The command prompt should then shift to say

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition>_

with the underscore thing blinking. Type in:
tool
and hit enter. If it comes up with a list of tool commands, you've done it correctly. If you haven't, then it should say:

'tool' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

in which case, you come back here and post about it.

On Windows Vista / Windows 7
Open the start menu, and type in cmd.exe into the search bar. cmd.exe should pop up. You can do two things:

1) Click it and follow the exact same instructions above.
2) Right click it -> copy. Then, browse to your Halo CE installation directory, and paste it in.

When you run it, it should then say:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition>_

with the underscore thing blinking. Type in:
tool
and hit enter. If it comes up with a list of tool commands, you've done it correctly. If you haven't, then it should say:

These are fairly standard elite AI tags which you should be able to get from any campaign mission. You could either extract them from the Halo PC maps, or from Renamon's converted SP maps if you don't have access to Halo PC.

Haha, no problem. Good to know that someone's benefiting from this :D

It wasn't until I started revising the animation that I realized how atrociously slow it was >> One thing I'd change if I were to modify that animation is decrease the time it takes for the gun to jump to its right position, speed up the overall throw, and reduce the delay between the throw and the return to origin.

For those of you curious how I do my throw grenades. DO IT EXACTLY HOW I DO, INCLUDING TALKING TO THESE PEOPLE.

This isn't really one of my more favorite throw grenades, but it's because I generally wait a day after making it to polish it and fix it up before putting it ingame. The overall idea's still here, I guess.

Maybe I un-left :D Ehh, I've had some free time, and I've been completely rebuilding my tagset from scratch over the past month.

It's all scenery; I have the biped and the weapon together as one.

This is the idea I had.

I kinda like this version of the trailer better, because it shows a lot more close-ups on individual soldiers and scenes. A UI like this would be pretty interesting.

Close enough >> I just found the first Halo 3 Believe trailer I could xD

Hey guys. Remember that Halo 3 promotional diorama thing with the music and the frozen statuettes and whatnot? Well, why not make that a UI! :D

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPx59LWj_qQ

Note that this isn't the final BSP; this is just a test map where I'm just messing around. I spent an afternoon during the weekend posing marines.

For those of you too lazy to click on the video:

I was just wondering if you guys would prefer marine vs covenant or multiplayer spartans battling it out in a multiplayer map. And if it's the former, I could really use some help on the marine shaders D:

On a side note, kudos to shadowslayer123 for getting me this marine model oh so long ago.

Halo CE General Discussion » Sapien Error Jul 1, 2012 02:36 AM (Total replies: 6)

If I recall correctly, the 3157 error is Halo's equivalent of a Java Null Pointer Exception; that is, you're referencing something that doesn't exist. This would indeed occur under the situation that Elefant outlined above. I could be entirely wrong because it's been so long since I've done this stuff, but if this is indeed the case, you could debug it by:

1) Isolate the tag that's causing the problem. In your scenario, delete the weapon with the weapon reticule you added (this is the most likely cause), and then try to launch Sapien. If Sapien loads, then it is a problem in the tag referencing the bitmap (which is most likely the weapon_hud_interface).

2) Replace this tag with a working one. I can't remember a method off the top of my head for fixing this tag (maybe someone else will suggest one); just replace it with another one.

3) Try to launch again to see if it works, and in the future remember not to delete things from the palette before deleting all instances from the scenario :D

Here are the scripts and HUD messages and other files that I found lying around. Regrettably, I no longer have the incendiary grenade, but I'm sure you can find someone to extract it from the map.

The error above indicates that your monitor animations are corrupt. Download these:
http://cmt.h2vista.net/maps/downloads/tags/monitor.model_animations
and overwrite your monitor animations with them.
