I don't even map for halo, i map for source. But i can tell you this. This map is another hugeass. I suggest you stop now and do more maps, don't release them or show them to us. Just keep doing maps. Eventually you'll get better along the way. I give this map
0.5/10 for detail 4.3/10 for effort, i could've made the same thing in a few minutes
Never release your first few maps.

*To all of you who say it's bad, don't knock it til you try it. This is just the ALPHA and I am currently working on better UVM mapping. Also, I have made many maps with great UVM and textures, but my Gmax explanation is true. Unfortunately, those maps won't make it to the light of day for quite a while (for the simple reason they were meant for practice), so don't worry about those. If you dont want criticism, dont release it until its awesome enough that it wont get any. Otherwise, stop trying to excuse youre laziness. +1 -3. That was absolutely unnecessary. Be supportive. Now I understand why a majority of good members left this site. It is really pathetic to tell you the truth, more pathetic than my first map. I'm dissapointed in some of this forum's members for this exact reason. Anyways, I know exactly what is wrong with my map. However, by the time Gmax fixed itself, the map was so far into being finished, I just released the finished version. I don't mind criticism, but like hailstorm said, that was just extremely blunt. Therefore, I'm advising everyone to ignore selentic, mainly because he likes to criticise any pieces of my work without even trying them. He called me a failure forever. And for the record selentic, being artistic is mostly opinion and too diverse to generalize as one skill. You would have been better off sticking with skill. And I'm not lazy with my maps until I reach Sapien, which hardly matters because that is the easy part. :[ Edited by DarkHalo003 on May 1, 2008 at 04:32 PM

I was only agreeing with selentic. If you can't take pure criticism then.. Get out of the kitchen? What majority of good members left the site? What about Masterz? or Matooba. They're probably working on better things rather than deal with people crying for getting criticized Edited by Sgt Stacker on May 1, 2008 at 04:39 PM

Hope u guys like what u see.
Rooster: Awesome, reminds me of the good maps that came out when CE was blooming
Zealot: Wut, is this supposed to be a mod?
Quote: --- Original message by: SiMuLaCrUm 1. To do that, you need to change the team that the NPCs are on, and I have no idea if there is a way to do that in game.
2. Those "cop guys" are called Civil Protection officers.

Quote: --- Original message by: ILLEGALLcheatsMAN the elevators dont really go up or down its just animated doors and a sound of an elevator going down, you see, game developers try to make hard to do things easier like so.
This isn't true, the elevators do actually move to a upper or lower level, my guess is that its a brush based elevator converted to a func_tracktrain with func_rotating brushes for the door closing and opening, You should probably just look at an example map or decompile it and see how valve did it
Half-Life 2 uses a different BSP system than Halo and the maps aren't created the pain in the butt modeling with a $1000+ program way. So instead of trying to rip more advanced models and maps you should remake them yourself You will get open edge errors and such because hl2 doesn't use 3DS Max, it uses XSI. Which doesn't have the same needless requirements of halo 1's model rendering engine. Personally i don't really think the Halo 1 engine is at all good enough to make hl2 content for. Because of things such as source's advanced graphics rendering engine, optimization techniques, etc. This wont look at all or even closely resemble hl2 other than textures and weapons. This is like the opposite of what i was dreaming of, I'd rather much like to see a halo based mod of source.

Quote: --- Original message by: Rozar I have Vista on one of my computers, and although it is a top-of-the-line computer, Vista has yet to crash it. In fact, the only crash it's ever had are exception errors on Halo. I don't understand all of this "zomg its UNSTABLE!!!11!" crap going around. Even so, SP2 (or SP1, I'm not sure) was released, and the computer still runs like a charm. To tell you the truth, I think this thread has gone quite off-topic, as do many threads, with this "Vista is crap XP rulez" argument. Take it to a forum where it belongs, and the forum where it belongs is most certainly not a Halo forum. Either way, why do any of you care which OS everyone else is running? Just use the OS that suits your needs, and everyone is happy. Not everyone has to be like you. Edited by Rozar on Apr 25, 2008 at 05:23 PM
Your right, theres no real point in arguing. Microsoft published and ruined a potentially good franchise, the end.
Quote: --- Original message by: Enzo03 It is all because of those CRAP BETAS of Vista and people too stupid to realize that the version they had bore NO GUARANTEES OF BEING BUG FREE and that final builds would be less buggy. There is a reason for mass public betas, and that is to find as many bugs and problems as possible while giving users a little taste of what is to come.
Warning: Everything below is off-topic Well i never called anyone stupid in my post, If vista works fine with what you do with it fine. That doesn't mean it will work fine with everyone though. None of the people ive seen/spoken to are idiots who are "Vista sux XP Rulez" its just a fact that the Operating System is still new and because of all the complications such as bad driver support that pushing vista on customers would be a bad idea right now. If all you do is play halo and make montages with blow me away playing 2 times the volume of the actual gameplay than vista is right for you, however your not going to see Vista in a business area, or used for software development, or any other forms of marketing/ productivity until its as stable and reliable as XP. The only point I'm trying to get across is that vista is new, and because its new people shouldn't use it until Service Pack 2 at least (in my opinion) When hopefully it is nearly as good, if not better than XP. The same was for 2000 to XP.
Now for bed

Quote: --- Original message by: RozarI was playing the Floods Part 3 ( http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=3663)on a relatively high end PC, and all of the AI made it really laggy, I was wondering if tuning down video/audio settings would decrease this lag? Also, what language is everyone speaking? And would it be possible for someone to make an English version (not requesting, suggesting) cause I think they're telling you what to do, but it's kinda hard if you don't understand the language they're speaking. <lol>
Decrease your resolution to 800 x 600, the engine craps out and lags machines to hell and back any higher than that unless you have like a 20000 dollar machine from god
Are they really expecting people to upgrade just because of the oh so threatening end of life? Maybe in 2009-10 when theres really no point in using XP as a dominant operating system and they probably don't even upgrade it anymore. Until then however I'm staying with XP, not that i really have a choice on the matter anyway. I believe that any computer that can run XP should be able to run vista, however in the case of vista Microsoft only seems to care about graphics and looks more than everything else, what happened to operating systems being less pretty and more usable? Do i really need to shell out $200 on a DirectX9 card and upgrade every part of my computer until it isn't even the same computer anymore? Do i really need 512 MB's of ram just to boot up correctly? I feel that Microsoft is starting to go down the pooper. I can't wait to see how big of a success/failure Windows 7 (or whatever the next OS will be called) is.
Don't get me wrong, i could (in theory) run Vista perfectly, but its not like I'm shelling out $200 for Premium Edition unless vista is more stable and less about all the graphics, however i fear that by the time i get a new computer i won't have a choice in what OS i can run, i wonder how many people will start pirating XP after June just to avoid using Vista.

Don't expect many good maps in halo 2 anytime soon. When Guerrilla Radio comes out there still wont be many good maps until Halo 6 is out in 2012 when everyone has vista, only for the world to explode before the truth is revealed. Don't talk unless you know what went on. THE H2EK was a big part of development since the game started. Hired Gun fought MS on the issue of having a locked HEK, but MS put there foot down. And tha'ts more than HG would want me to say right now.
Do they have a gun to your head?

Just pulling ideas out of the other end..
My theory on AI how to sync would be to edit the code to have AI, bipeds, and just about everything thats predicted client-side to be predicted server-side, that way the server would then update the information always to the clients. However i doubt this is possible even hacking.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client-side
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server-side
I do also have reason to believe that nearly everything in the Halo 1 engine is predicted client-side which is another contributor to pointless frame loss in the halo 1 engine, the client (in my opinion) should have to only have to deal with graphics and sound, and the server deal with almost everything else.
Quote: --- Original message by: HaloSlayer If you dont get what i am implying. Im saying that basically. You need to remake the halo ce engine to support ai and bipeds in multiplayer. Which i doubt even CMT would attempt
Do you have any idea how long this would take? Do you think Bungie is just gonna give some experienced coders (or noobs) the source code and expect them to make something great? You cant recode an engine without having code to base it off of. It would take years to even be 1/10 the engine blam! is. If i were you i would consider porting the game to other more stable and reliable engines such as Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_engine It would require a lot of work and experience but it would be better than making an engine from scratch, and faster too. Gj..
If you remember your old CD key or uninstalled the game you can easily use the CD Key Recovery Tool on the website. Then as long as you own the game you can mount a mini-image with a tool such as daemon tools to make the game think the CD is in a drive. Which is what i do because my CD was thrown away a year ago.
Or you can use a Mini-Image (which is legal as long as you own Halo PC)
